THE QUINCEANERA TRADITIONS in the United States have maintained a cultural connection with the Latin American ways of celebrating such significant birthday in a girls' life.
Many agree with tracing its beginnings to the Aztecs times as it is said that they used to celebrate the girls arrival to womanhood once they turned fifteen. Many believe that the idea of celebrating the girls' fifteen birthday had it roots in Europe, where some sort of celebrations took place at palaces in which teenage girls where invited to and dressed up as adults.

It is also believed that as the European conquerors arrived, the traditions were blended in many ways. The Aztec temple was substituted by the Catholic church and the ritual dances by the waltz. Nowadays, the religious ceremony is not only carried out among Catholics but through Christians communities and temples as well.
